Caught up in the excitement of wedding planning, couples often overlook these important items. You are unlikely to find them in any of your wedding planner guides. I have listed five very important items here:
- Your legal documents
Collect and prepare your original birth certificate, passports and or driver’s licences. Before you marry, you are required to provide evidence of your identity as well as date and place of birth.
- Your “Notice of Intended Marriage”
Unlike in the movies, in Australia you cannot get married the moment you decide to! You are required by Australian law to complete a Notice of Intended Marriage and lodge it with your celebrant within the required notice period, which is at least one month prior to the wedding.
- Your Witnesses
You require two witnesses to certify that you married. They must be over the age of 18 years. Your witnesses will sign all the documents on the wedding day. Your witnesses can be anyone you wish; they do not have to be a part of the bridal party.
- Your Ceremony
This is where you marry your true love and where your legal status changes from single to married. Book your celebrant as soon as you have your wedding date confirmed. This gives you time to put some thought and planning into creating a beautiful and meaningful ceremony.
- Your Vows
Undoubtedly the most important and beautiful part of your wedding ceremony. Take the time to think about the promises you wish to make to each other. Make sure your guests can hear your vows, mic up!
Hope these tips help you as you plan your big day.
Happy wedding planning!
